Damn Facebook! I was tagged by so many people for the "25 random things about me" I think I have permanent paint drips. While I want to feel honored that all of these people care, it's really just your average chain letter--complete with "send this to 25 people"--and I happen to actually have a good number of friends on Facebook.

So here you are: 25 random things about Melissa.

I swore I wasn’t going to do this. I’ve managed to not do it since I was first tagged a few weeks ago. It’s now being talked about in all sorts of places, including MTV, ABC News, and USA Today. You know what I’m talking about. The much loved and ever hated “25 random things about me.”

I’m not one to ever miss a party, so here I am, adding my 25 things to the millions of other useless things other people have said about themselves.

25 random things about me

Polar bears are my favorite animal, which is too bad since they’re going to be extinct soon.

There are three movies that will always make me cry–no matter how many times I’ve seen them: “Juno,” “Pay it Forward,” and “Hope Floats.” ((Yes, there are probably more than three. If you think of others, let me know.))

Speaking of crying, this commercial always makes me cry–no matter how many times I’ve seen it:

I’m crying right now, dammit!

Even though Zachary insists it should be pink since I’m a girl, my favorite color is really red.

I’ve been behind the stage (and underground) at Red Rocks. It was during a Harry Connick Jr. concert ((Yes, I got to meet him.))

At Red Rocks I’ve also seen Sting, John Mellencamp, Natalie Merchant, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang and Reggae on the Rocks.

I’ve had four best friends in my life. One I’ve just reconnected with, two I don’t talk to nearly as often as I would like to, and one I haven’t spoken to in over a decade. 🙁

I hate clowns. I have always hated clowns. Clowns are evil.

One of the best presents I ever received was one I was never able to use: an enlarger for a darkroom that we were never able to get built.

I hate Taco Bell. I think their food is possibly the worst on the planet. ((Okay, maybe it’s second behind Casa Bonita but only people from Colorado will know what Casa Bonita is.))

This is the second time I’ve been married. I didn’t try to be a very good wife to my first husband–I’m trying to be a good one to Chris. ((My first marriage was for 2 years. Chris and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary in June. 🙂 ))

I’m really bad at Guitar Hero, so I refuse to play.

I’ve only lived in two places my entire life: Colorado for 34 years, and Florida the past 3 years.

While I lived in Colorado my entire life I have never skied. Ever.

I’ve only been out of the country three times in my life. And all three trips were to Mexico.

Before I die I want to see Italy, Paris, and Africa.

I don’t like going to the movies–most movies aren’t worth the cost of admission. I’d much rather watch movies at home in my PJs with a glass of wine and the ability to pause it when I have to pee.

I love to throw darts, and was captain of a dart team in Denver until I got pregnant. Damn kids! 😉

I really miss Denver. If we could manage it, I think we’d move back.

I hate olives. ALL olives. Even Olive Oyl.

My dream car (Saab convertible) turned out to be not-so-dreamy. ((And I still hate to love it.))

I have seen John Elway drunk on a bar stage singing YMCA. Arm gestures and all.

I still love roller skating and go every Sunday I can, for adult night.

I didn’t appreciate Led Zeppelin until I was in my late 20s. Thank you Sara, wherever you are!

I actually enjoyed waiting tables ((I’m really good at it.)) My two favorite places to work were The Piper Inn and The Brewery Bar.

And there you have it. You can all stop tagging me now!

More stuff you were just dying to know about me. And my name is not Betty. ;)

Well, kind of. 😉 Stefanie at Focus Organic actually tagged 10 things, but since that’s a blog for shredding reviewing websites, I decided to “accept” the tag here, where it’s more appropriate. I hope you don’t mind, Stefanie!

So, here are seven facts about myself:

My name is not Betty. Web-Betty was born 13 years ago as a spin-off of the term ‘shred Betty’ which, in snowboard speak, refers to hot female snowboarders.

I once jumped on stage at a Chris Isaak concert. Luckily, he’s so cool he not only let me stay and dance, he invited a few other girls up there too.

I could listen to 70s pop music until I die. Ambrosia, 10CC, Bread—the hokier, the better.

I believe that if you intentionally harm a child, there is nothing you could be subjected to that would be too awful or painful.

I also believe Gandi’s saying “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I try to follow those words and while I may often fail, I keep trying.

I am married to the best guy in the world, whom I often take for granted.

It only has to reach 65 before I will put the top down on the car. I may have to run the heater at the same time, but the top will go down!

Now you have seven more useless facts about me. As with all tags, here are the bloggers I’m bugging today:

From Where I Sit

Modern Mami

Miss Attitude

My Signs of Life

Not Buying It

Trapped in the Office

Tele Twenties

Now I’m off to tell them they’ve been tagged! If you’re not on the list, feel free to join in fun. Give me a fun fact about yourself below:

So, without further ado (To plagerize the Un-Mom), here are 7 things you should know about me as a teenager:

Great.

So, without further ado (To plagerize the Un-Mom), here are 7 things you should know about me as a teenager:

I totally had a thing for basketball players. Seriously, I dated a lot of basketball players in high school. My long-term boyfriend played (and was really good). I had crushes on the varsity players when I was a freshman. I had crushes on freshman players when I was a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. I was just crazy about basketball players. I was crazy about basketball. I was the basketball manager. I even got kicked out of a basketball game, as a cheerleader, for getting in a ref’s face and mouthing off.

Nice segue to #2. I was a cheerleader. Pom-poms, short skirts, flash pants and all. I cheered in junior high and in high school. I was pretty good. Of course, back in the 80s cheerleading was not the Gatorade-sponsored, ESPN-lovin’, crazed sport it is now. It was good, clean fun with a few backflips thrown in. I did manage to break my tailbone, though (thanks Stacy, if you were to ever read this) so don’t tell me it’s not a sport!

I was a roller-DIVA! I grew up in a roller rink called Roller City. My mom taught me when I was 3 and we would go every Thursday night for family night. It was our thing. It got to the point where the limbo winner AND the person who came in second would get free passes. (Since I won every week, that only seemed fair.) For races, when the other kids only had to do 1 lap, I had to do 2. And I would still win. They moved me up to the teen races when I was 9. Then I only had to do 1 1/2 laps. They say do what you love, so I worked there for a few years too. I know, I’m so cool such a loser.

My first car was this horrible Datsun. It was a 4-speed, manual transmission wagon that I bought for $500 from a friend of my mom’s, not knowing the heater didn’t work. It was November in Colorado. I was also so afraid of not being able to time the gas and the clutch correctly on hills that I would go a mile out of my way to the aforementioned roller rink (work) because there was a huge hill, where the light was always red. (God’s idea of a joke, I guess.)

I was in the habit of sneaking out some nights to meet up with my friends (not boys, other girls who were actually allowed to go out after dinner). One winter night—everything happens during the winter in Colorado—I snuck out to chill (literally, it would appear). I came home about midnight to discover that some time in the night my mother had gotten up and closed my window. And locked the front door. I was crushed. She must really hate me to lock me outside in the dead of winter. I refused to give in to her and knock on the door. I was young and tough so I figured I would just wait it out in the car (she never locked her car). Well, 3 hours 10 minutes later, the wuss in me won out. I had to knock on the door and beg her to let me in. Boy was she surprised to see me. She had no idea that I had been out. She got up to pee, noticed my window open and closed it, never noticing I wasn’t in bed. Mental note: when sneaking out, take your keys!

Like all teenage girls, I had some posters on the wall. My walls were covered with pre-gay George Michael, Sting, Rick Springfield, and Duran Duran.

And last but not least, I LOVED JAKE RYAN. If you don’t know who Jake Ryan was, 1) you were not a teen chick in the 80s and/or 2) you haven’t seen one of the greatest movies of all time!

Now it’s my turn to tag. I know she’s probably sick of being tagged, but that’s what happens to the popular girls…they get tagged! So, Miss Caught Up, go go go and relive your teenage years! I’d also like to know more about the teen years of:

Dagny a.ka. Scratch Bags: because she seems like a cool chick!
Daddy Papersurfer: I don’t know if he’ll participate, but it would be fun to hear about the “olden days”!
Atomic DogmA: DP knows all the fun people.
Probably Sucks: I want to read what crazy shit he’ll write!

I’m only tagging 5 people. The rest of you, use the comments and tell me something about you as a teenager!
