Earth Day 2009. Celebrate it in poem.

Today, Wednesday’s words are all about Mother Earth. 🙂

The world is finite, resources are scarce,
Things are bad and will be worse,
Coal is burned and gas exploded,
Forests out and soil eroded,
Wells are dry and air polluted,
Dust is blowing, trees uprooted,
Oil is going, ores depleted,
Drains receive what is excreted,
Land is sinking, seas are rising,
Man is far too enterprising,
Fires will rage with man to fan it,
Soon we will have a plundered planet.
– K. E Boulding

Future

Sweet Mother Earth, lovely daughter of Ra
wonderful cosmic creation you are
spinning through aeons evolving and shaping
dying from twenty short decades of raping
now you are burning, in sadness you smolder
heat slowly rising yet future looks colder
Soon all your children will hurt you no more
mankind raps loudly on grim reaper’s door
dragged to its future as convicts in chains
rivers and streams clogged like varicose veins.

Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth. ~Henry David Thoreau

Forests and fields turn to debris and dust
greed and abandonment violates trust
dig, rip and kill is the cry of the age
teardrops are falling on history’s page
written in blood from the animals lost
profits are rising, so discount the cost.

Rush through their lives as the air above burns
see daily damage, yet nobody learns
meek is the voice from humanity’s cry
too busy gathering trinkets to try.

Slowly your body turns barren and bare
the future is written – there isn’t one there.

– Graeme King

Happy Earth Day. Let’s try and take care of Mother Earth.

Only a 5-year old (soon to be 6-year old) could come up with this cute little poem The Moon is a Cookie. Next thing you know, he'll want to blog. :P

I know, there are a lot of bloggers out there who do a “Wordless Wednesday” post. Call me a rebel. I’m reversing the trend and going with “Wednesday’s Words.” 😛

Today’s words were penned by none other than The Goose (aka, Zachary). We were all sitting at dinner some time back, talking about stories and the writing he was doing in school when out of the blue, he makes up this poem, The Moon is a Cookie.

Enjoy!

The Moon is a Cookie

The moon is a cookie;
The moon is a flower;
The moon is a rose, that blossoms at night.
The moon is a sliver that slips through the treetops,
and crosses the ribbons of slivers of light.

Poem by Zachary. Punctuation by me. 😉

Red, white, rosé. Just not pink. Never pink.

In my 25 random things post, you learned that red is my favorite color. Red is the color of so many wonderful things. And let’s not forget that I look really good in red.

It’s also the title of my newest poetic endeaver.

Red

Red.
The color of my bliss.
Keeps me from the abyss.
An alternative to white,
which sometimes is too light.
Don’t ever sample pink.
It’s never what you think.
Rosé can be quite pleasing.
Though sometimes it is teasing.
Making me want
Red.

The fey little man,
how jolly is he,
the future he sees is bright.

He spies babes in the woods,

Expand your vocabulary! There are some great words in the English language that you'll never know. Here are a few of them.

Okay, I’m totally opening myself up for ridicule and scorn here, but I was cleaning out my email and found a poem that I wrote a while back. For some reason, posting it sounded like a good idea.

To give a little background, some time ago a few coworkers and I had a little group called “The Word of the Day” where we would have to take the word provided daily by dictionary.com and use it in a sentence. You can only imagine the sentences and diatribes a bunch of caffeine-soaked, sleep-deprived, über-geeks can come up with! Being a romantic and literary über-geek, I crafted a poem using not one, but two words of the day. So, without further ado, I give you…

Diffident is spring

The sun shines o’er the hues of spring
the colors swell and grow.
The bumblebee, he takes his flight
through the early morning glow.

How diffident the daffodil
how arrogant the rose.
The bumblebee, he cares not which
to either one he goes.

The meadow fills with hums and sways
the blooms, they lay in wait.
The bumblebee will come and take
their treasur’d opiate.

So shy is spring, she’s like a child
who wants to romp and play.
She’s wondering about the world
in which she makes her way.

The day begins to coruscate
the morning turns to noon.
Spring’s coaxed out, the blooms will revel
summer’ll be here soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let the evisceration begin. 😛
Can you pick the two words of the day?
