Like most of America today, I have the inauguration events playing in the background. Being lucky enough to work from home, I don’t have to stream it from the internet. 🙂 While listening, I was thinking of President-elect Obama ((At this time, he’s not quite president yet.)) and trying to formulate what it is about him that has energized our country in this difficult time. Here are 10 reasons I, personally, love Barack Obama:

  1. Whether it be limo or armored car, he still opens the door for his wife himself.
  2. He still holds his wife’s hand, and actually looks like he enjoys it.
  3. He is articulate beyond words. ((Some of you will get that, some of you wont. 🙂 ))
  4. He gives (most) Americans hope.
  5. There hasn’t been a First Family as attractive as this since the Kennedys.
  6. His ideas for change actually make sense. The Issues
  7. He shows respect, compassion, and understanding for people from all walks of life.
  8. He has the potential to be one of the most influential presidents in American history—and I can say I was a part of it. ((Everyone who voted for him is a part of it.))
  9. For the first time in a long time, I can say “I’m very proud to be an American.
  10. He is bringing intelligence and dignity back to the White House.

  1. Oi.. you’re American? I’m not so sure I want to be friends with you anymore. hehe I kid, I kid. It is a very exciting day. Jan 20 is certainly a day to mark in the calendar.

He has been a much needed ray of light, my realistic side keeps nagging at me that it won’t last but I sure as hell hopes he proves that side wrong.

    • There is that nagging feeling that with such high expectations, we are possibly setting him up to fail. For my children’s sake, I hope that is not the case!

  2. As long as we all remain realistic, he can’t fail. He’s not a magician and what took 8 years to mess up can’t be fixed in 8 minutes. It will take time and patience on our part.

And for the first time in a long time I too am proud to be an American. Thank you President Obama.

    • I am cautiously optimistic, and realistic enough to realize that you are completely correct–what was done in 8 years can’t be fixed in 8 minutes. Very well said!

    • It certainly was a great day. Now I need to see if I can record all of it from my DVR. 😛 The day and evening events are taking up a lot of space!

  3. Nice, Melissa. I am extremely hopeful, he really seems to be acting according to his philosophies. And I hope his attitude really influences the outlook of citizens and politicians to make a lasting change in our country!

  4. Guy! Guys! As much as I would personally LOVE to blame every problem on T! Now that’s what America is all about!!

Reasons I love Obama? For the 1st time in memory, I want to move to Vancouver because I WANT to, and not because I’m ashamed of being American! This man wants to work with the world to be it’s friend, not bully them into it! Maybe now America will again be seen as a force for good to the world, and not the bully on the playground!

I love him because I love Al Gore, and Al Gore loves him!

I love him because when he talks, he’s talking TO us, not around us or down to us. I believe he believes he can help this country, and I haven’t been able to say that since Kennedy!! (Ask my daughter!)

I love him because his girls will still have to make their own beds! And most of all, even tho things are still bad in this country, I actually felt a weight lift, and optimism replace dismay the moment he said, “So help me God.”

I have more faith now that my grandchildren won’t live their lives paying for mistakes we created and then did nothing to correct. He’s swimmin’ up stream, but luckily, he has the spirit of America behind him. Now everyone PUSH!

  5. Fist sentance got ??…What I meant to say was, as much as I would personally like to blame every problem we have on Shrub..oops, Bush, the problems we have in this country have been coming for much longer than 8 years! Bush didn’t create this mess, but he also did NOTHING to fix it! This man will! I believe that, and since he’s President, the rest of this tired, aching country believes it too.

1.9 million people all together, all excited, and not ONE arrest! I didn’t see one face in that crowd all day that wasn’t smiling and excited. Now THAT’S what America is all about!
